Rev. Edward Donnelly - Sermon Review

Compatriots;
I am going to begin a six part series doing a review on Rev. Edward Donnelly's sermon series on Baptism. Pastor Donnelly does a wonderful job defending the doctrinally sound view on the sacrament of baptism. I grew up a Credo-Baptist, but in the last several years the Lord has led me to the doctrines of the Reformed faith, and thus Paedo-Baptism. This is one of the sermon series that helped to seal my belief in Paedo-Baptism. In this six part series I will post the link to the Sermon I will be reviewing, and a day later (maybe two or three days later) I will post my review. These sermons are only about half an hour long, and are free to listen too, or download to your computer. I encourage y'all to listen, and then read my review.

I hope this helps any of y'all that are struggling with which application of baptism is the proper one.

First, if I may, I would like to point out that it appears that when you said, "the Lord has led me to the doctrines of the Reformed faith, and thus Paedo-Baptism" you are making the assumption that if a person is Reformed they will necessarily also be a Paedo-baptist. This idea (whether that is what you intended to infer, or believer, or not) is fallacious as I know many people who are definitely Reformed and are not Paedo-baptist, amongst whom is Doug Philips.

Anyway, I find it very providential that you are going to be doing this series of post as I have been thinking on and listening to some material on this very subject the last several months. I, too, was raised a typical credo-baptist, and the pastor of the reformed baptist church I used to attend even went through a series on credo baptism vs. paedo-baptism. Recently though, I have been reading 'In the Name of God, Amen' by Dan. J. Ford which is a history and explanation of biblical covenants and America's covenantal heritage. Reading that book caused me to begin considering paedo-baptism more seriously since covenents as the basic foundations for all relationships and institutions appears to be a very sound biblical doctrine, and paedo-baptist claim covenants as one of the basic reasons for infant baptism.
So, not to be laborious, it continually amazes me how the Lord orchestrates everything in my life for my edification and sanctification; this presently being one of them.
I will be looking very much forward to these post and pray that I may make the time to listen to the sermons.

Do not be surprised if you have MANY, and perhaps long, comments from me on this subject. Sometimes people take my comments as me being adversarial or just trying to work up a debate, but I hope that you will not take any I may make as such, nor as personal attacks, as that is the least thing I desire to do.

It is the belief that both new converts to Christianity, and children born to Godly parents should be baptized.

I would agree with you, but I always thought they were called Reformed Baptist. I would agree with what you said however, there are many who embrace much reformed doctrine, but are still Credo-Baptist. Anyway, it was not my intention to infer that all reformed people are credo-baptist.

The Lord moves in mysterious ways.
I've been struggling with this issue for sometime. I've been raised Paedo-Baptist, but most folks where I live are Baptist. (I wasn't aware of the term Credo-Baptist till now; I always referred to non-paedo baptists as just baptists :)
I've been wanting to hear the Credo-Baptist side of things for a while...but I haven't had the opportunity of asking someone to explain it to me. Maybe in a couple weeks. :)
My father went through Luther's Large Catechism, and we had a lot of interesting discussion about Baptism. I came away unconvinced, not for lack of argumentation and logic, but because I wanted to hear the other side of the story.
Honestly though, I've also been raised with the acknowledgement that Credo-Baptism is also legitimate, and my brother in law is a Credo-Baptist. :)
Anyhow, I will find time to listen to that sermon, and I'm looking forward to your future posts on the subject.

Oh, just for general information for anyone who is interested in further studies on this subject, Vision Forum also has a series that they put out on baptism called 'The Great Debate over Baptism and the Covenant' by William Einwechter. "With charity toward both dispensational Baptists and traditional Reformed paedo-baptists, Mr. Einwechter nonetheless makes the rigorous case that BOTH positions are exegetically inadequate." ~Vision Forum (emphasis added)
